The Graz-based “heidenspass” work project has been involved in upcycling for thirteen years. Upcycling is the art of creatively developing something new out of used material and thus prolonging the product lifecycle. Together with young people in crisis situations, the team develops bags, rucksacks and many other useful products from used materials. As part of the Graz Year of Culture 2020 and in cooperation with the Stadtbibliothek, “heidenspass” is holding free public upcycling workshops on more than twenty-five dates.
The aim of these workshops is to encourage the participants’ creativity and to create meaningful, sustainable results. To conclude the series of events, the participants will join the artistic workshop leaders to design upcycling sculptures which will be presented at an exhibition opening.
