At the heart of the project ‘Digital Reconfiguration: A cartography of the invisible’ stands a collective work that reveals social restructuring, gender structure, power relations and capital flow in the era of digital capitalism. Starting from the rich industrialized region of Styria in Austria, emerged a series of relational diagrams, discussions, and artistic interventions, focusing on the current conditions of collective self-understanding in a time of neoliberal and global technological and environmental change.
Most recently, the fight against the pandemic accelerated the processes of flexibilization and automation of digital capitalism, which has not only led to apathy, alienation, and social isolation, but has also changed the conditions of collective bargaining. How can we identify an Arbeiterwille (worker’s will) as the basis for community building today? A discursive installation “Arbeiterwille: An Impossible Movement” demonstrates what is hidden behind media representations of high-tech work and poses the question of new possibilities for collectivization and political action.
Taking as its starting point the historic newspaper Arbeiterwille, which promoted the emancipation and education of the working class in Styria for forty-four years, the project
“Rebellious Books” invites various workers to compile books that are now considered to be “rebellious”. The collective investigation of the necessity of our time and the medial collection of the library of the Styrian Chamber of Labor asks about resistance, emancipation and radical thinking.
