Musik als Motor für Veränderung
Ein Jugendorchesterprojekt aus Yucatán als Vorbild für Graz

The project looks at how music can reduce social inequality and contribute to sustainable integration. The Graz University Orchestra will join forces with the Mexican violinist and conductor José Luis Chan Sabido and his Maya youth orchestra “Fritz Kreisler” to stage concerts at Graz’s universities and schools and in public space.

The social music project from the Yucatán region harnesses classical music to help children understand important values and sense of community. This approach is being deployed for workshops with children and young people in Graz. In cooperation with schools and educational facilities for children with a migration background, the project offers children their first experience with musical instruments and instrumental lessons. The aim is to encourage their development to become responsible, active citizens.
